Broken Bow, Oklahoma
Somehow in the corner of southern Oklahoma there is a place filled with tall, thin pine tree’s, rocky mountain sides, and luxurious cabins. It’s hard to believe you’re still in Oklahoma. A short 3.5 hour drive from the nearest cities either Tulsa or Dallas, the drive is windy, and beautiful.
Summer is Broken Bow’s busy season with the lake attracting many from Oklahoma & Texas. I prefer going in the fall or winter though because the cabins just feel extra cozy with leaves changing & the cool weather.
We went with my parents, sister & brother in law, & of course our whole fam! We stayed at the Jolly Roger, a pirate themed luxury cabin with an incredible pirate ship play ground out back. Would absolutely recommend this cabin! The kids played for hours & hours! This house also had a swing set, hot tub, fire pit, bunk room, & yard games.
You can totally go with a family or as an adult only trip, I think there’s plenty to do for both!
Ideas on things to do:
Bonfire with s’mores, chili, hot dogs, etc (be sure to check if there is a burn ban first!)
Hochatown Petting Zoo - be warned, this is not your normal petting zoo, it’s a SMALL town Oklahoma petting zoo, ha! That being said, there’s some pretty interesting animals (and smells) there! Skunks aka “Stinkerbell”, a squirrel named Lois, y’all get the idea. Don’t be scared, it’s a good time & definitely a fun experience!
Shopping - there are a few fun shops up & down the main highway 259, but my all time favorite shop is Hotchatime. Hands down the cutest apparel & gifts!
Mountain Fork Brewery - they brew their own beer right there, you can even take a peek inside. It’s pretty cool and the beer is good! Their appetizers, pizza, & wings are all delicious. We loved grabbing a beer, a few apps, and sitting out back on the patio watching the kids play. They have a fenced in playground you can let your kids run & play while you enjoy some time on the patio. They often have bands playing out back as well!
Hiking - there are lots of beautiful hiking trails near the dam of the lake, an easy & beautiful on is “Friends hiking trail”, just be sure to pay for your parking or you’ll get a parking ticket. Don’t ask me how I know, ha!
Local brewery & winery’s - we didn’t go this time, but we have in the past - it’s fun to snack and try a few different things!
Football, board games, good food, family time are definitely the highlights of going to a remote cozy cabin in the woods!
Pro tip - buy your food at the nearest big city & pack cooler’s to bring down, especially if you’ve got a large group! The restaurants are good, but sometimes have trouble accommodating larger groups.
What would you like the most about a remote cabin in the woods?
